In the past, travelers departing from or journeying toward Kyoto—passing through checkpoints along the highways—relied on meals designed to keep well, such as vinegared mackerel sushi (saba-zushi).
These were thoughtful, comforting provisions meant to nourish body and spirit during long travels.
This ekiben was created in that spirit: a single bento crafted to evoke Kyoto’s traditions and the beauty of its four seasons.
